CC250 TriPod

$50

From the moment I first fostered a three-legged dog, I quickly realized how special and how wonderful these dogs are. While they're full of drive and determination, there needs to be a large concern for their overall health and condition. This course will focus on the three-legged dog and their special fitness needs. Whether they are void of a front leg or a back leg, most can go on to live a life just like any other dog. And why shouldn’t they? They don’t know they are missing a leg and just want to keep moving! We can help them do that! j

FE238 Structure and Movement

$50

What's in there anyway? Little wheels? Why is one dog graceful and another one clumsy? What's a fiddle front and why should you care? Will that puppy grow out of those cow hocks? Why DOES that dog walk sideways all the time? And why do little injuries always seem to happen on the front end?

FF190 All About Nails

$50

You asked for it; you got it! By popular demand we are now offering a husbandry class strictly focused on feet and nails. Of all the grooming procedures that your dog needs, people report BY FAR the most challenges trimming toenails. In many cases getting nails shortened has become a stressful physical ordeal and a battle of wills. This is a battle that no one really wins. Our goal is to take a totally different approach. Instead of conflict we will develop and nurture cooperation. We want our dogs to become active partners in the process. Our ultimate goal is to help our dogs become comfortable with nail trims.

FE160 Tricks

$50

Teaching tricks can lead to huge and long- lasting benefits for your competition work.  Far from being silly and inconsequential, tricks can be the building blocks for more advanced work.  Trick training helps you form a strong and mutually enjoyable working relationship with your dog.  Teaching tricks gives you valuable training practice.  It allows you to practice a variety of training techniques (shaping, luring and targeting),  improve your timing, and set criteria appropriately.  And most importantly, trick training is fun!

The tricks we will focus on in this class will have direct application to competition training and showing.  Left and right spins, hand touches, backing up, weaving between your legs, sitting up, paw touches, chin rest, take a nap,  go to bed, and play dead are some of the tricks we will work on.  In addition to teaching these tricks we will talk about how they can help improve your dog's focus, lower his stress level, and make teaching competition behaviors much easier.

Students will work at their own level and their own pace.  If your dog already knows the basic trick behavior we will add more challenges and work on distraction and stimulus control.  Appropriate for dogs of all ages (puppies through seniors) and at all levels of training.

FE395 The Art of Training

$50

Science has done much to bring our training techniques for companion animals out of the dark ages. Scientists greatly expanded our knowledge of humane and effective training techniques. They have given us a framework for training that is thorough, evidence-based, kind and replicable. It is now commonplace to teach our animals behaviors with the use of a clicker and a pile of cookies. We have motivated animals who understand the training process, and we can create desired behaviors with amazing speed and accuracy.

FE700 The Cats Meow

$50

Cats! We love our cats, but rarely try to train them. There's a pervasive myth that cats cannot be trained, but of course, they can. This myth is likely due, at least in part, to attempts at training with coercive methods. Most creatures respond poorly to these techniques and cats are no exception. However, any animal can be trained if you have and control effective reinforcers and if you have an understanding of learning theory.

FE260 Small Dogs

$50

This course is designed to build the confidence and basic foundation skill set of the smaller sized competition dog.

In general, training is training and it simply does not matter if a dog is tiny or super sized.  However, there are specific challenges that are encountered by the trainers of smaller dogs, and in many cases there are solutions!

Small dogs are more likely to need generic confidence building in our full sized world.  Feet are big, people are big, hands move quickly and strange dogs are often intimidating too!  Small dogs tend to be more susceptible to issues of space and pressure, specifically because these issues are magnified for dogs that may be only a tenth the size of the other dogs and humans around them.  With a bit of extra attention and thoughtful training, even the smallest dog can learn to be comfortable - giving much better work when you add in the requirements for your sport!

On the other end of the scale, some small dogs really struggle with moving away from their handlers with speed and confidence.  30 feet appears to be a much greater distance for small dogs than for larger ones!  Using platforms, targets, and cones, small dogs can practice games that make movement away from “mom” a bit less intimidating.

Small dogs may also benefit from some additional modifications to our interactions.  Play skills can be modified to make play more comfortable for both dogs and handlers and some training techniques can be modified as well.

This class is designed to provide a range of foundation skills, exercises and modifications to allow the handlers of small dogs to progress more rapidly when they begin their specific sport training. While this class will teach you relatively few specific obedience or agility skills, it will give you foundation skills to make it easier when the time comes to add sport’s specific training.

Join Denise Fenzi and her super star small dog “Brito” and learn how to make your small dog as confident as possible in this full sized world!

Note:  This class is also appropriate for larger dogs who are simply extra sensitive and who need a confidence boost.

FE110 Puppy

$50

The purpose of this introductory six week course is to help you develop a strong, positive training relationship with your puppy or young dog. Training behaviors is one thing; instilling a love of working with you is another. The key to consistent success in the ring is to help your dog develop into an enthusiastic and confident working partner. The concepts, ideas, and exercises presented in this class are designed with that goal in mind. Once you have raised a happy and focused puppy, you can take your training in any direction you choose in the future. My goal is to help you build success on success in your pup’s early training experiences.

This class will be based on the book “The Focused Puppy” by Deb Jones and Judy Keller. This book is a clear and complete guide that we will follow in our class format

FE101 Play Class

$50

For some people - and dogs - play comes naturally. But did you know that good play is more than simply WANTING to interact with your dog? Good play requires the ability to engage with your canine companion on a level that taps into his natural interests, and this ability is one part art and one part mechanical skills. This class will teach you both of these elements.
