WW629 Dec 06 - Dec. 6 - Stop Creeping!
Does your dog struggle to stay in place when you add distance, distractions, or the pressure of the ring?
Does your dog struggle to stay in place when you add distance, distractions, or the pressure of the ring?
Creeping is often the result of the dog feeling uncomfortable. From the dog’s perspective, all the good stuff happens near us—reinforcement, praise, security, and connection. When we leave them, the environment can suddenly feel much more challenging. Add distractions, a judge, and ring pressure, and moving forward can feel like the easiest solution.
In this workshop, we’ll use fun, positive strategies to help your dog:
• Stay comfortable and confident as you move away
• Prevent unwanted forward motion without creating conflict or pressure
• Develop “backwards thoughts” rather than feeling compelled to move forward
• Learn that backing into pressure and moving away from you can be a fun game
• Build confidence and understanding around distance, distractions, and ring pressure
Petra’s precise yet positive approach focuses on creating understanding, confidence, and a strong emotional connection—not correcting the problem after it happens. You’ll learn practical games and strategies that you can immediately incorporate into your training.
Whether your dog is just beginning their sport or is an experienced competitor who has developed a creeping problem, these techniques will help you build a dog who is comfortable, confident, and happy to stay where you left them and change positions without forward motion. This workshop is relevant for all sports that require the dog to stay or change positions at a distance.
